What happens when the pilot's method is automated across all 45 signs?

How it was made

  1. Pick and trim plates automatically to their longest cut-free segment.
  2. Measure each plate: picture area, camera track, object mattes, people, colour and exposure.
  3. Stage each plate in one of three modes: G on the ground, S on a surface, P in front of the picture like a figure before a screen.
  4. A fresh critic reviews strips for every passage.

What this case teaches

  1. Scaling turns a feeling into rates: about 38% work, 44% partly, 18% fail.
  2. The mode matters more than the sign. P worked about 55% of the time, S about 45%, G about 25%.
  3. The biggest failure was not the dummy at all: 37% of plates hid cuts or dissolves that ordinary detection missed in soft archival footage.
  4. The report ends with a drop list: plate types that should not be attempted automatically.

How it differs. The pilot learned by fitting six plates by hand. The atlas learns from failure rates across 78.

What broke and what changed

  • Hidden cuts inside plates (37%).Shot segmentation tuned for soft footage; uncleanable plates go to P mode.
  • Bola off frame or cut by the edge (13%).At least 70% of the passage fully visible; entry finished within 1.5 s.
  • Wrong support or scale (12%, all in G).Feet only on floor pixels; tabletops routed to S.
