WYGWYL

The poet as a jointed paper cut-out made from his own photographs, set over the cineosis-lab cel cuts with the reading on the soundtrack. Every patch is built from the lab's cel database.

Poem 07

The cast

The poet

The poet

a jointed paper cut-out from his own photograph · brass pins · paper hands

Cut into eleven pieces along his bones and moved by the rig like paper on a table. Replacement heads come from every photograph of him.

The replacement heads

The replacement heads

six heads, mirrored to twelve turns

Front, three-quarter and profile heads, the head bowed in red light, the hand at the glasses and the camera held to the face, chosen frame by frame from the rig's turn and her words.

How a patch is built

  1. Words to gestures. A cue table maps words in the patch's line to one held gesture each (ear, mic, open hands, reach, heart, chin up, head down, camera, glasses) and writes the rig world.
  2. Heads. Each frame takes the replacement head nearest the rig's turn and tilt; some words ask for a particular head.
  3. Plates. His own photographs with him painted out; the puppet goes back where he stood.
  4. Inset. The patch's own archive cel, framed on a cardboard plinth, labelled from the cel database.
