Episode 3 · THE RAFT

Book 5 as one story, each act seen from the point of view of whoever is watching it: the gods on their television, Calypso, Poseidon, the sea. Watch the film.

All of Book 5 is one continuous story, from the gods' council to Odysseus asleep on Scheria. 8 min 21 s, -16 LUFS.

The gods watch Odysseus on a television set standing on a cloud. Zeus decides by stamping a rubber stamp on the screen. Hermes is sent.

Poseidon's storm is a field of moving dots (a BEFLIX gas), and the raft breaks inside it. Athena holds back every wind but one.

Observed and generated

This part separates what came from the archive from what was made here.

  • Every spoken line comes from the Found Odyssey CALL tracks for Book 5. The words and their order are unchanged; only the selection of lines and the pauses were chosen (ody/ep3/cut.py).
  • The answers come from The Found Odyssey's line-by-line matches. When an answer's own film is in the library, it plays in a framed inset.
  • The plates come from the cineosis-lab clip library: Bryce Canyon, The River, beach and sea footage.
  • Generated: all drawing and animation, the stamps, the flow warp, the dot storm, the ink notes, the sound effects and the music.
  • New to the cast, drawn in the same ink renderer: Zeus, Hermes, Calypso, Poseidon and Athena.
