THE COURSE

Editing as golf. Your ball's line of flight is your cut: every shot it crosses goes into your film, for as long as the ball is over it. A fast putt cuts quickly through many shots; a slow one holds; the shot it comes to rest on holds longest. Each hole is a chapter; its flag is a shot the story stands on.

Aim: drag back from the ball. The line, the shots it will cross and the cut it makes appear at once, and stay. Adjust by dragging again, or with the arrow keys (left/right turn, up/down power). PREVIEW plays the proposed cut. CUT IT (or Enter) commits: the ball flies exactly that line while the monitor cuts. UNDO takes the last cut back. MAGNET sets how strongly the land bends your line toward good cuts (0: it flies straight). The land is the data (LAND in the header). Ending in empty ground costs two strokes and the cut is lost.
