# Narrative Chemistry · ontology v1 (frozen)

Frozen at the merge of PR #6 (commit `803f2ad`). The compound bench (`lab/chemistry.html`), its data
(`chem-data.json`, `compounds.json`) and its scripts implement exactly this. Changes go into v2, and only when the
trials (`TRIALS.md`) show a term enables a cinematic operation v1 cannot.

## Atoms
The 45 signs of the periodic table (`lab-data.json` signs):
- **group:** the image type (16 columns);
- **period:** composition (rows 0–1) or genesis (row 2); opsign, sonsign and lectosign are singular;
- **regime:** columns 0–10 are movement-images, columns 11–15 are time-images.

| period | valence | why |
|---|---|---|
| composition | 2 | it joins an image before and an image after |
| genesis | 3 | it can branch |
| opsign 34a, sonsign 34b | 1 | a pure situation cannot be discharged, so it ends a chain |
| lectosign 44 | 4 | it reads everything around it |

## Bonds (cuts)
| bond | order | allowed when | film operation |
|---|---|---|---|
| `-` single | 1 | always | a cut |
| `=` shared time | 2 | same regime | dissolve or superimposition |
| `#` rhyme | 1 | same image type | match cut |
| `~` resonance | 1 | the two signs are confusion neighbours | a shot on the hinge between them |
| `>` break | 1 | movement-image → time-image | the sensory-motor break |
| `.` loose | 0 | always | an association that never plays |

The sum of bond orders on an atom must not exceed its valence. The bench's "strongest lawful bond" order is
rhyme > resonance > break > single. It was asserted, not measured.

## Ligands
The 17 elements of the sound table. Each binds to one image atom IN, OFF or OUT of the world. Her voice (Po) binds OUT.

## Reactions
- **flip:** an atom becomes one of its three confusion neighbours, under the condition the periodic table gives.
- **condense:** two composition atoms of one image type, bonded, become that type's genesis sign.
- **break:** a movement-image atom plus a sound move (Deamer p.168; drop the score or the effects → opsign, unnatural voice or exposed lock → sonsign) becomes a pure situation. Bonds it can no longer hold turn loose, and music or field ligands are removed with the score or the effects.
- **crystallise:** an opsign or sonsign becomes a hyalosign (35, 36 or 37).
- **read:** the lectosign is added.

## Measures
- **pT:** 14 × the share of image atoms that are time-images.
- **Saturation:** used valence ÷ total valence. An atom with free valence is a radical.
- **Mass:** seconds of the poem's suite cut carried by the compound's signs.
- **Yield:** atoms that have a shot to realise them.

## Natural compound (the measuring rule)
1. Take the signs whose combined share of the poem's suite-cut seconds and beat-pool sign weight is at least 0.06, at most six.
2. Order them as the suite cut first reaches them.
3. Bond each to the latest earlier atom with free valence, using the strongest lawful bond that fits.
4. Her voice binds OUT to the sign with the most seconds.
