Independent critic B — 071 / A FILE HAS EDGES — V02 Verdict: bounded VISUAL PASS for the truthful parent/selection/reduced-derivative relation and the distinction between digital pixel measures and unknown physical gauge. Its final removal makes the imposed mark/rulers visible as editorial residues. Full native-speed duration, narration and audiovisual acceptance remain INCONCLUSIVE. This is my first independent review; V01 was not independently reviewed by me. Method I inspected all six actual V02 one-second sheets before CARRIER_LEDGER.json. I then extracted and enlarged actual MP4 frames at20,35,50,83 and85 seconds. After reading the ledger, I independently decoded the original source at2.5 seconds, checked source/carrier dimensions, reconstructed the stated crop and BOX reduction using Pillow, compared that result with the stored derivative, and inspected my own enlarged crop. I did not read other critics' images/reports or a builder script. No audio audition or native real-time playback occurred. Visible sequence 0–3 title introduces image versus carrier. At3–15 the boy handles a reel and draws material from it, with a later closer view. This is moving archival evidence of a handled reel, not a newly recorded hand performance. The caption says source audio muted, so the picture does not pretend to give newly recorded handling sound. 15–19 explicitly crosses into A VIRTUAL WORKTABLE. It says decoded copies rather than newly filmed physical objects, pixel rulers rather than known physical gauge. That boundary is clear. 19–33 A occupies the left panel while B/C spaces are empty. The parent is visibly a still copy of the reel-handling source. Its320x240 caption and100-parent-pixel bar identify digital dimensions, not the reel's size in millimetres. From33 seconds B duplicates A and adds a red box around the lower torso, hands and reel. In the actual enlarged35-second picture, its top edge is below the face. The visible face remains in the complete B copy but outside the selection rectangle. Thus the claim that the selection excludes the face is supported; do not misstate it as the entire marked panel having no face. From49 seconds C displays a visibly blocky crop containing the selected hands/reel/shirt. The enlarged50-second frame makes its lower resolution unmistakable. The image is enlarged, not endowed with recovered grain. The left and middle parents retain more detail and the head; C no longer does. This gives the three-way comparison a consequence rather than merely naming file formats. Approximately80–84 the parent and marked-copy images disappear in sequence; C survives briefly after them. At85 seconds all three image spaces are empty, but the B rectangle, dimensions and pixel rulers remain. The actual enlarged85-second frame confirms this;83 seconds still has C and should not be used as the final-empty-state proof. The end is an editorial removal, not loss/destruction of the source file. Independent source and transformation checks The original203.mp4 video stream probes as320x240. My independent source2.5-second PNG and carriers/A_parent.png are pixel-identical in all RGB channels. A is therefore correctly associated with the selected original frame, not simply assigned a source ID in prose. Cropping A at(64,128,256,240) yields192x112 source pixels. My BOX reduction of that crop to48x28 is pixel-identical to carriers/C_crop_48x28.png. The selected aspect ratio is preserved:192/112 equals48/28. I inspected my enlarged192x112 crop: it includes shirt, both hands and reel, excludes the head/face, and has the same principal contents as displayed C. The display scales are internally coherent: A320x240 appears288x216 at0.9; C48x28 appears288x168 at6. The100-parent-pixel ruler is90 output pixels and the10-derivative-pixel ruler60, matching those scales. Those are pixel-coordinate measures; they are not physical film-gauge measurements or a ruler photographed with the reel. Largest remaining gap and observable repair condition The largest unresolved formal weakness is the long plateau structure: roughly14 seconds on A alone,16 seconds on A/B, and30 seconds after C appears before removal begins. The viewer can read the transformations relatively quickly; the image remains substantially the same during the long comparison. The ledger supplies four synthetic narration passages, but I have not heard their pace or their contribution, so I cannot certify that those holds are earned at native speed. The work risks functioning as an illustrated explanation more than a developing short. If normal-speed viewing makes the explanation settle before the picture changes, shorten the relevant plateau and let C appear when B's exclusion has become clear; similarly begin image removal once the different detail has been compared. A falsifiable condition is whether a viewer can identify both excluded face and newly visible blocks without waiting through an already completed reading. Preserve sufficient time to compare the pixel rulers and keep the final empty-state residue. Do not manufacture handling or animate false recovered detail merely to create motion. This is conditional pacing repair, not an unresolved factual blocker. Argument and limits The actual progression is coherent: a reel handled in an archive becomes a decoded frame, an imposed selection, then a coarser derivative. The face exclusion and block formation make selection/resampling losses concrete. Removing the images while retaining the red mark and rulers separates editorial decisions from represented content. The title's image/carrier distinction therefore develops beyond a list, though its time allocation remains diagrammatic. The work does not demonstrate a physical scan/print/display chain, actual tabletop arrangement, known millimetre film gauge or newly recorded handling sound. It does not establish the boy's identity or personal recollection. Its synthetic narration is new and explicitly labeled; the ledger's words are not evidence that speech is intelligible or synchronized in the actual soundtrack. Keep those unperformed operations and full AV acceptance pending. On the independently checked visual/source-transform scope, V02 passes.
